Capaccio-Paestum – A change in precautionary measures has been imposed on Franco Alfieri, the former mayor of Capaccio -Paestum and former president of the Province of Salerno, involved in the trial over alleged rigged tenders in the city of temples. The Court of Vallo della Lucania has decided to replace his house arrest with an obligation to reside in his municipality of residence, a measure that marks a partial easing of restrictions.
The decision came just as the proceedings were entering their prime time, with the initial hearings before a panel presided over by the president of the Vallo Court. The next hearing is scheduled for October 9th.
Despite the less severe measure, Alfieri will not be released: he is currently under arrest for another precautionary measure, as part of an investigation by the Salerno District Anti-Mafia Directorate, which alleges that Alfieri and other suspects were involved in political-mafia electoral manipulation.
The dual judicial front is keeping the former mayor of Paestum, a prominent figure in Salerno politics over the past twenty years, under scrutiny. While the trial on rigged tenders aims to shed light on alleged irregularities in public works tenders, the DDA investigation adds an even more delicate layer, with the threat of alleged criminal interference in electoral processes.
