Piano di Sorrento – It was 1:00 a.m. on Via Santa Margherita when the Carabinieri of the Sorrento mobile radio unit caught two men tampering with the ignition lock of a scooter parked along the road.
The suspicious scene leaves no escape for the two: the attempted theft is evident and the military intervenes immediately. They are a 17-year-old, already known to the police, and Vincenzo Vitiello, 33, a resident of the area.
The minor, reported for attempted theft, is no stranger to similar incidents: just a month ago, he was arrested for the same crime. Further complicating his situation, the Carabinieri found a diving knife in his pockets, possession of which is considered a crime.
The adult accomplice, Vitiello, was arrested on the spot and charged with attempted theft. The Carabinieri's prompt intervention prevented the theft, but the case raises questions about the young man's recidivism and the escalation of criminal incidents involving minors in the area.
Investigations are continuing to clarify any possible connections with other similar incidents recorded on the Sorrento Coast.
The 17-year-old, already reported for similar crimes, will undergo further investigation, while Vitiello awaits the judicial authorities' decision.
