A brutal robbery, committed in front of one of the symbolic sites of the Marian faith, occurred last August 24th in Pompeii, where a man approached an Indian tourist, pretending to take a photo of her in front of the Sanctuary, before swiftly snatching her backpack.

The victim desperately tried to stop him as he got back into the car, but was struck multiple times with the car door. The woman, who had facial injuries, suffered a lesion to her eyebrow and required four stitches, with a seven-day prognosis. The investigation, coordinated by the Torre Annunziata Public Prosecutor's Office and conducted by officers from the Pompeii Police Station , led to the identification of the perpetrator thanks to footage from the area's video surveillance systems.

The man, considered a serious suspect in the crime of aggravated robbery and assault, was arrested and transferred to Poggioreale prison in Naples, pursuant to a precautionary custody order issued by the Oplonti investigating judge. This incident has shaken a city already crowded with tourists and pilgrims, forced to witness a scene of violence right in front of the Sanctuary.
