Pozzuoli – Not even prison bars have been able to quench the thirst for power of Gennaro Sannino, known as "Gennarino 'o vet." The Monterusciello boss, a leading figure in the Phlegraean Fields Camorra, has continued to spin his criminal web even from behind bars, issuing orders with a coldness that belies his status as undisputed boss.
But law enforcement action put an end to his prison reign: a transfer to Palermo severed his contact with the outside world.
The discovery of his illicit activities came almost by accident. During a check, one of his cellmates, an inmate affiliated with the Longobardi-Beneduce clan, was charged with using a cell phone.
The subsequent investigation revealed the truth: Sannino, despite being in prison for two years for extortion, used that phone to issue directives, maintain control of the territory, and manage his clan's illicit business.
The discovery of the cell phone used by mafia boss Gennaro Saninno in prison opens up new investigative avenues into the Pozzuoli criminal gang, following the recent raid prompted by the statements of his repentant nephews Luigi and Umberto Sannino.
A decision that brought the clan to its knees, revealing secrets and internal dynamics. Sannino's transfer to Palermo prison, a distant destination with stricter surveillance, represents a devastating blow to his clan and a clear signal from the state: there is no place, not even behind bars, where the Camorra can operate undisturbed.
