Salerno – "Governor, I'm Cristina Pagliarulo's mother. At least tell me something, at least say you're sorry: my daughter died in the emergency room."
With these words, filled with pain and anger, the mother of Cristina Pagliarulo, the 41-year-old from Giffoni Valle Piana who died last March at the Ruggi d'Aragona hospital in Salerno, interrupted the official visit of the President of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca.
A mother's cry
The confrontation took place this morning, following the inauguration ceremony of the new strategic management of the Ruggi University Hospital. The woman wanted to publicly remember her daughter, whose death is still under investigation by the prosecutor's office. "At least apologize," she repeated several times to the governor, asking for a sign of support from the institutions.
De Luca's reply
President De Luca's reaction was clear. First, he invited the woman to speak to the hospital's director general, then—in front of reporters—he commented:
"I know absolutely nothing. There's a lady shouting nonsense at someone who arrived this morning and doesn't know what she's talking about. For many people, good manners are optional, not a duty of civility."

The opening of the Ruggi
Ruggi's new general manager, Ciro Verdoliva, took a different approach, immediately expressing his willingness to meet with Cristina's mother. The hospital announced that Cristina will be contacted and received this week, with a commitment to begin "all necessary investigations."

The prosecutor's office has opened an investigation to clarify the cause, liability, and possible negligence on the part of the Ruggi emergency room.
