San Cipriano d'Aversa – An investigation has been opened into the near-tragedy during the procession in honor of the Madonna dell'Annunziata: seven people were killed when fireworks exploded too close to the faithful participating in the rite.

The Carabinieri of the Casal di Principe branch are investigating the circumstances of the accident. Questions remain regarding the permit granted for the fireworks display: according to rumors, the municipal documents do not include either the request or the approval from the technical office.

One of the fireworks that exploded outside the church of Santa Croce did not follow the expected trajectory and ended up among the faithful.

Meanwhile, photos and videos are circulating on social media showing firecrackers exploding just meters from the crowd, where many children were also present.

Businessman injured in the head: 50 stitches needed

Seven people were injured, three of them seriously. The most critical case concerns LDV, a construction contractor in his late 50s, who was hit in the head and required 50 stitches.

The man was rushed to the Moscati Hospital in Aversa, where he remained conscious throughout his life and is in stable condition. Last night, he underwent another CT scan to monitor a hematoma.

In the square, next to him, there were many friends of the association of sedan chairs of the Madonna, who immediately expressed their closeness. From the hospital, the LDV himself asked for the celebrations to continue, a sign that strengthened the community's solidarity.

Mayor Vincenzo Caterino announced a ban on fireworks and firecrackers throughout the municipality: "In the past, fireworks were set off in the countryside for safety reasons. Now I think it's gone too far," he said, assuring that the municipal police, along with other authorities, will step up checks.

A drastic measure, but inevitable after an evening that could have turned tragic and leaves many questions unanswered about the safety of religious and street events, where the tradition of fireworks remains strong but not without risks.
