San Felice a Cancello – The dawn of Thursday, September 25, was shattered by an unexpected tragedy on the peripheral roads of Caserta.
A 62-year-old amateur cyclist, originally from Pomigliano d'Arco , lost his life in a road accident whose dynamics, unfortunately, seem to confirm the growing dangers associated with wildlife invading urban and suburban areas.
The victim, a 62-year-old man whose full identity has not yet been released, was riding his bicycle along a road in San Felice a Cancello when, according to initial reconstruction by law enforcement, a wild boar suddenly crossed the road.
In a desperate and instinctive attempt to avoid the animal, the cyclist allegedly swerved sharply and violently, plunging irremediably into the path of an oncoming van. The impact, described as terrible and unavoidable, left the 62-year-old with no chance of escape.
Rescue and investigations
The alarm was raised immediately. Emergency medical services arrived at the scene of the accident within minutes, but the situation immediately appeared desperate. Despite the rapid response, there was nothing that could be done for the man: the very serious injuries he sustained in the impact were fatal. The medical staff could only pronounce him dead.
Officers from the San Felice a Cancello Local Police and the Highway Police responded to the scene and immediately began technical investigations to reconstruct every single phase of the incident and definitively determine who was responsible. The area was closed to traffic to allow for the operations.
The van involved in the accident was seized for routine checks. The driver, a man whose identity has not been revealed, was treated by paramedics: he was clearly and understandably in shock over the incident.
The Wild Boar Emergency and Social Concern
This latest tragedy dramatically rekindles the spotlight on the wild boar crisis affecting much of the province of Caserta and beyond. The increasingly large and bold presence of these ungulates, driven by hunger and their proximity to residential areas, is creating a serious road and public safety problem.
The dynamics of the accident, with the fatal maneuver to avoid a wild animal, raises urgent questions about the need to adopt more effective measures to contain and manage this species, before more lives are lost on the asphalt.
The community of Pomigliano d'Arco is mourning the loss of their fellow citizen, known for his passion for cycling. Police investigations continue to clarify every detail and determine the exact sequence of events that led to this senseless and painful death.

It's truly sad to hear of accidents like these. Wild boars are a serious problem for everyone who uses the road. Something must be done to prevent similar tragedies from happening again and save human lives.
