The crazy stone-throwing that took place during the night between Sunday and Monday along the Sannitica state road, near the Caivano Green Park , an area already sadly known for episodes of degradation and violence, could have turned into a tragedy.
A driver, returning from the multiplex cinema in Marcianise with his wife and three-month-old daughter, saw his car hit by large rocks thrown by a group of youths stationed along the ramp.
"The rocks were tuff and very large," the man said. "I was afraid they would smash the windshield. Luckily, none of us were injured, but it was a huge scare. I didn't stop to take photos: my priority was to save my family. However, I reported everything to the police in Caivano and Castello di Cisterna."
Making the story even more disturbing was the presence of the newborn baby on board, making the episode not only an act of vandalism, but potentially homicidal. An act that could have ended innocent lives with disarming ease.
A trail of similar episodes
Unfortunately, this is not an isolated case. In recent years, numerous stone-throwing incidents have occurred along roads and overpasses in Campania. The most high-profile case remains that of the SS268 , where dozens of motorists reported similar incidents, which were always documented and brought to the attention of the authorities. On several occasions, these stone-throwing incidents have caused serious accidents, in some cases resulting in deaths.
Green Left Alliance MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli intervened in the matter, taking up the driver's complaint: "This is a very serious incident that could have turned into a tragedy. We're not talking about a prank, but a gratuitous and criminal attack, which puts the lives of innocent people at risk.
In this case, a newborn baby was on board. We've been reporting stone-throwing from overpasses and similar incidents that continue to occur in various areas for some time, but the problem persists. We need constant police presence and surveillance cameras in the most high-risk areas. Institutions cannot remain silent: entire families must not risk their lives because of reckless gangs.
A violence that is no longer a "prank"
Investigators emphasize that throwing stones at moving vehicles is not simply an act of incivility, but a fully-fledged criminal act, capable of causing fatal accidents. Every stone thrown from an overpass or ramp is a potential death sentence for anyone traveling by car.
The Caivano incident thus rekindles an unresolved emergency: road safety is jeopardized by gangs of unscrupulous youths, capable of turning a family evening into a nightmare and a car ride into Russian roulette.
