Sala Consilina – A tragic road accident has claimed the life of a teenager and left the entire community of Sala Consilina in despair. Nicola Spolzino, just 16, a student at Leto High School in Teggiano, died in the hospital following a violent collision between the scooter he was riding and a car.
The tragedy occurred yesterday evening, Saturday, September 27, at the intersection of Via Taverne and Via San Golfo, a key traffic hub in the town. Nicola was riding his scooter with a friend his age when the two-wheeler collided, for reasons yet to be determined, with a Citroen C3 driven by a woman.
Desperate rescue and rush to the hospital
The impact was devastating. Emergency medical services from Sant'Arsenio immediately rushed to the scene with an ambulance and a medical car, supported by the Sala Consilina Fire Department and the local Carabinieri , led by Captain Veronica Pastori.
Nicola's condition immediately appeared extremely serious. All the injured—the two boys and the car driver—were rushed to the Luigi Curto Hospital in Polla with critical conditions. Despite the doctors' desperate efforts, young Nicola's heart stopped beating shortly after he was admitted to the intensive care unit.
The man traveling with him, also from Teggiano, sustained injuries but is not in life-threatening condition. The woman driving the car also reported minor injuries.
The Carabinieri carried out investigations at the accident site until late into the night to reconstruct the exact circumstances of the accident and determine any liability. Technical checks of the vehicles and witness statements are underway to determine the cause of the fatal impact.
The young man's body is now available to the judicial authorities for any necessary tests. The driver of the car has undergone all necessary tests to determine whether she was fit to drive at the time of the impact.
Your position will be assessed by the magistrate once he has received the information on the findings and testimonies regarding the accident.
Mourning and silence: the eve of the holiday transformed into pain
The news of the passing of Nicola Spolzino, a star student at Leto High School, has struck a chord with the entire community. Messages of condolence and disbelief have been pouring in on social media. Friends, classmates, and acquaintances remember the 16-year-old as a bright and vibrant young man, torn from the affection of his loved ones too soon.
What was supposed to be the eve of the patron saint's day has turned into a day of deep mourning and silence. The tragedy has refocused the spotlight on road safety and the importance of caution, especially among the very young.

I also think this is a terrible thing; a life so young should never be lost. We hope everyone can learn from this tragedy and be more careful when they're on the streets.
It's truly sad that a young man like Nicola, only 16, lost his life in this way. The community of Sala Consilina must reflect on how something like this could happen. It's important to be careful on the roads.
