Naples – Carabinieri from the Napoli Stella Company, supported by specialists from the Labor Inspectorate (Nil) and the NAS, discovered that three out of five employees, or 60% of the workforce, did not have a regular contract.
The raid, which is part of a broader operation to combat gangmastering and exploitation in the agri-food sector, targeted a bakery located at the intersection of Via Cassano and Via Imperatore.
The joint inspection, aimed at verifying compliance with workplace safety regulations and combating the phenomenon of undeclared work, immediately brought to light a situation of serious irregularity.
The consequences for the owner were immediate and severe. The sole director of the company that manages the bakery was reported and, pending trial, has already had to pay the hefty price for the violations: administrative fines and fines totaling approximately €22.000. Following the serious violations, the business was temporarily suspended, a measure that deeply impacts the bakery's productivity.
But the twist doesn't end there. In addition to the "invisible" staff, the Carabinieri also seized a large quantity of finished products, ready for sale: 150 kilograms of baked goods were sealed, resulting in additional financial damage to the retailer.
The operation demonstrates the close collaboration between the various branches of the Carabinieri—local, NIL, and NAS—to monitor a sector, the restaurant and bakery sector, historically exposed to the risk of irregularities. It sends a clear signal to companies intent on competing at the lowest possible price, trampling on workers' rights and market rules: controls are strict, and penalties, as in this case, are intended to be exemplary.
