The precautionary custody order, issued by the Brindisi investigating judge at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office, was executed this morning by the soldiers of the San Vito dei Normanni Company, with the support of several units, including the Mondragone Territorial Unit and the Sarno Canine Unit.

The investigation, the crime route and the logistical base

The investigation, coordinated by the Brindisi Public Prosecutor's Office, began on May 29, 2025, following a series of thefts that occurred within a few hours in the Fasano and Carovigno areas. The criminals, using two vehicles, carried out three burglaries at private homes, breaking into locks and operating while partially masked.

Immediate analysis of video surveillance footage allowed the Carabinieri to reconstruct the gang's entire route. This led investigators to their logistical base: a rented villa in Castellaneta Marina, in the province of Taranto.

The raid and the stolen goods

Collaboration between the Carovigno station and the Palagianello Carabinieri was crucial. Timely coordination allowed the seven suspects to be caught inside the house, while they were still busy dividing the stolen goods. This swift action prevented the loot from being dispersed and confirmed the suspicions.

During the searches, officers seized several burglary tools, radio transmitters, flashlights, cell phones, clothing used for disguise, and a car with fake license plates. The material found suggests that this was a well-organized and highly professional criminal group, capable of operating even outside its home region.

An escapee among those arrested

Of the seven arrested, one was already under house arrest. Despite the precautionary measure, the man continued to participate in the thefts, demonstrating complete disregard for the law. This detail adds a further aggravating factor to the already serious charges against the group.

The operation demonstrates the effectiveness of collaboration between the various departments of the Carabinieri and the investigative readiness to counter complex and ever-evolving criminal phenomena.
