Pozzuoli – The seismic swarm that has been ongoing in the Phlegraean Fields since yesterday shows no signs of abating .
A new strong earthquake of magnitude 2,7 was clearly felt by the population at 10,24 am.
The shock was located at geographic coordinates (lat, lon) 40.8302 , 14.1517 at a depth of 3 km . The institutions responded immediately after last night's strong earthquake, which jolted residents of the Phlegraean Fields area awake.
The Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, has urgently convened the rescue coordination center to assess the situation. Firefighters are conducting structural checks on several buildings in Pozzuoli, while as a precaution, the temporary closure of all sites in the Campi Flegrei Archaeological Park has been ordered.
"Due to the earthquake and the ongoing seismic swarm , in compliance with safety protocols, the Park sites are temporarily closed to the public," reads a notice published on the organization's website.
Rail transport is also affected: EAV, the regional public transport holding company, has suspended the Cumana and Circumflegrea lines for routine safety checks, activating a shuttle bus service as a replacement.
The earthquake caused moments of great apprehension. Many people, gripped by fear, took to the streets in the early hours of dawn, a déjà vu of the hours following the first swarm. Civil Protection and local authorities are constantly monitoring the situation, urging the public to remain calm and follow official announcements only.
The INGV (National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology) confirmed that the event falls within the ordinary activity of a Phlegraean supervolcano, characterized by bradyseismic phenomena, although the intensity of the shock has raised alarm.
The shock was felt by a large part of the population of Naples and the Phlegraean Fields.
The event, which occurred at 4:55 this morning, with its epicenter in the Campi Flegrei area and a hypocenter just 2 kilometers below the surface, was clearly felt throughout the Phlegraean Fields area and in several neighborhoods of the capital. It follows an intense seismic swarm that had already caused two previous 3.3 magnitude tremors yesterday afternoon.
