Naples – Thirty works from the Treasure of San Gennaro will be brought back to life thanks to a restoration project starting in October.
The initiative, supported by Mulino Caputo and organized by Valore Italia, will feature paintings, busts, and precious devotional objects preserved in the Chapel and the Treasury Museum . These unique pieces preserve centuries of history, faith, and tradition linked to the patron saint of Naples.
The project presented during the celebrations
The restoration plan was officially presented to the city during the celebrations for San Gennaro. "Restoring these works to their original integrity and splendor," the promoters emphasized, "means preserving a unique legacy of identity and reaffirming the value of heritage protection as a bridge between past, present, and future."
A construction site that becomes an experience
A distinctive feature of the project will be the establishment of a full-fledged restoration laboratory within the Treasury Museum, open to the public. This open-air workshop will allow visitors to observe the work processes up close, learn about the techniques used, and participate in dedicated guided tours. The goal is to transform a specialized operation into a cultural and educational experience accessible to all.
Experts at work
The paintings will be restored by Valentina Verzoni, a restorer trained at the Botticino School, while the precious metal works will be entrusted to Stefano Lanuti. Scientific coordination will be provided by Chiara Rostagno, an art historian and director of major museum projects.
Restorations to be experienced online too
In addition to the direct experience at the Museum, the project will have a digital dimension: videos and dedicated content will be shared on the partners' social media channels, allowing visitors to follow the restoration progress step by step and expanding participation to those who cannot physically be in Naples.
