Torre Del Greco - The hitmen who carried out an ambush late yesterday morning on the central Via De Gasperi in Torre del Greco were caught on camera fleeing.
The target of the ambush was 59-year-old Antonio Gaiezza, a longtime acquaintance of law enforcement and, more importantly, a secessionist from the Di Gioia-Falanga clan . The hitmen were riding a scooter and had their faces covered by full-face helmets.
They surprised the intended victim on the street. It's clear they followed him and waited for the right moment to strike. The man sitting on the back seat fired several shots at him.
But a single shot to the leg and then he fled into traffic. At the scene where his injury was reported, officers found and seized several shell casings.
Antonio Gaiezza was rescued and taken to the hospital, where he was stabilized and the bullet was removed. He was also interviewed by officers from the local police station, who are conducting the investigation, but he was not very cooperative.
Gaiezza had recently been released from prison
Police officers have reviewed footage from numerous surveillance cameras in the area and are trying to track down the two hitmen. Meanwhile, they are examining the man's criminal history and his current relationships through text messages, chats, and phone traffic.
Gaiezza had recently been released from prison after serving a six-year and three-month sentence for mafia-type criminal association. He was arrested in April 2019 after being on the run for over a year. He was apprehended after fleeing on a scooter.
