Torre del Greco – A major anti-drug operation conducted last night by the Carabinieri of the Torre del Greco Company, with the support of the Campania Regiment and the Sarno Dog Unit, led to an arrest, numerous seizures, and the discovery of a potentially lethal weapon, shaking the tranquility of the Vesuvian city.

In the dead of night, officers canvassed the area, checking 52 people and 41 vehicles, conducting seven searches, and checking eight individuals under restraining orders. The raid severely affected the local drug market: 58-year-old Giorgio Specchio Mazzullo, born in San Giorgio a Cremano and already known to law enforcement, was arrested red-handed while selling narcotics at his home.

The searches resulted in the seizure of 37 grams of hashish, packaging equipment, and over €500 in cash, believed to be the proceeds of the illegal activity. During the operation, other dealers were reported or charged with drug possession, both for dealing and personal use.

The Carabinieri confiscated further quantities of hashish, marijuana, and precision scales, typical tools of the illicit drug trade . But the most disturbing discovery occurred during a roadside check: a 23-year-old was found in possession of a modified knuckleduster, a homemade weapon as subtle as it is dangerous.

The object, apparently a simple pair of knuckledusters, concealed a 9-centimeter switchblade, transforming it into a lethal instrument capable of inflicting serious injuries. "Such a weapon combines the power of a blunt blow with the danger of a concealed knife," investigators explain, emphasizing how such an illegal and insidious device can turn even a trivial argument into a tragedy.

The weapon was immediately seized, and the young man is now under investigation. The operation, which is part of a broader plan to combat crime in the area, demonstrates the commitment of law enforcement to ensuring safety and legality in Torre del Greco. The extensive checks and the results achieved send a clear signal: the fight against crime knows no end, and the city remains under close surveillance.

It's interesting that the Carabinieri are conducting these checks and arrests, but I wonder if they'll really be enough to stop drug dealing in the city. There are so many people involved, and the problem seems rather complex.
