Gragnano-Castellammare Tram: European tender for innovative connection begins

The European tender for the construction of the tramway connecting the old Gragnano railway station to the Liceo Scientifico stop in Castellammare di Stabia has officially opened, with a possible future extension to Castellammare di Stabia's main station and Torre Annunziata. The green light came after the positive approval of the Technical-Economic Feasibility Project and the Services Conference, which concluded on March 28, 2025, allowing the tender to be published in the Official Journal of the European Union. Bids may be submitted until October 24, 2025.

The tender, worth a total of 49 million euros, includes two main functional interventions. The first involves the conversion of the railway section between Gragnano and the Menti stop, with the construction of the vehicle depot Gragnano, structural improvements and restoration of existing bridges, for a total of 33 million already financed by the Development and Cohesion Fund.

The second project involves the redevelopment between Menti and the Liceo station, new intermediate stops, a connection to the EAV "Stabia Scavi" station, and the construction of a lit cycle/pedestrian path along the entire route. The project, worth €16 million, is currently awaiting funding. Further work is planned to complete the project: €3,5 million for Lot 1 to Castellammare Central Station, €10,5 million for rolling stock, and €61,5 million for Lot 2 to Torre Annunziata, with funds still to be found.
