Naples – The anger knows no respite. The army of those defrauded by Samer Khalifa, the self-styled "tour operator" known on social media as the "serial Ferragosto scammer," is back in the streets, in front of the closed shutters of what was once just a scam agency.
Fueling the protests this morning in Corso Vittorio Emanuele were not only the thousands of euros stolen for holidays that never arrived, but also the latest, cynical insult: the denial of promised refunds and the defamation of the victims, including children with disabilities and terminally ill patients who had dreamed of one last trip.
Leading the chorus of indignation was Francesco Emilio Borrelli, MP for the Green Left Alliance, joined by Roberto Russo of the Cellule di Bonifica Sociale association and Carlo Ceparano of Europa Verde. The aim of the mobilization: to obtain "immediate compliance with commitments" and the "restitution of the illicitly embezzled sums," a mantra now unfulfilled despite solemn promises.
The mockery of the tip promises
Khalifa had promised that refunds would begin on September 20th, a date that should have marked a first step toward justice. But, as a spokesperson for the defrauded victims bitterly confirmed, "to date, that promise has not been confirmed." Indeed, the situation has escalated with Khalifa's recent statements, in which he dared to exclude from the reimbursement anyone "connected to Carmela," one of the first victims to report him, whom he cynically portrayed as the cause of the cancelled trips due to an alleged "unrequited love."
The invisible victims: terminally ill patients and robbed children
Khalifa's actions have left a shocking number of people stranded. But beyond the financial loss, what is shocking is the nature of the victims. Among them are people in extremely vulnerable conditions: adults battling serious illnesses, denied the dream of a final journey, and families with children with special disabilities, all defrauded after paying the requested money. This cruelty has further embittered sentiments.
Khalifa's three agencies in Naples—Insta Viaggi on Corso Vittorio Emanuele, another on Riviera di Chiaia, and the third in the Azzurro complex in Fuorigrotta—now lie sealed and desolate. The Corso location, in particular, has been revealed to be nothing more than a mere warehouse, a symbol of the emptiness and pretense left by man.
Borrelli: "Khalifa is a scam broker, we'll get to the bottom of it."
Francesco Borrelli leveled the harshest accusations, raising the tone of the dispute and promising a no-holds-barred battle. "This isn't just a ' tour operator' —this is a scam broker," the MP thundered. "He's dispensed scams galore, sowing despair and losses. Not only does he not reimburse, but he's also had the audacity to threaten those who rightfully report the charges, and to attack me."
Borrelli then doubled down, criticizing Khalifa's attempt to discredit the first victim who reported him. "This is the level of squalor we've reached," he stated, referring to the ridiculous insinuation that the woman was motivated by romantic resentment. "None of the defrauded have seen a single cent of their money back. Our mobilization doesn't stop here: we won't give up until justice is done and every last stolen euro is returned. The judiciary must intervene with the utmost severity."
With the victims increasingly united and the determination of local politicians, the battle against the "serial Ferragosto scammer" is only just beginning. The promise is one: we will not let our guard down until the last dream, and the last euro, are returned.
