Naples – On the occasion of the seventh edition of World Patient Safety Day, which coincides with the National Day for the Safety of Care and Patients, ASL Napoli 1 Centro is participating in the initiative promoted by the Ministry of Health with a program dedicated to the theme "Safe care for every newborn and every child."
The day, celebrated on September 17, aims to raise awareness among healthcare workers, patients, families, and citizens about the importance of safety in healthcare, with particular attention to the health of the youngest.
"This year too, we are actively participating with initiatives aimed at engaging the community and promoting healthcare safety as a top priority," stated Gaetano Gubitosa, Director General of ASL Napoli 1 Centro. Planned activities include an information campaign based on materials from the World Health Organization (WHO), multidisciplinary meetings in hospitals and local communities, and the involvement of associations, municipalities, and schools.
Additionally, a dedicated webpage has been created on the ASL intranet (intranet.aslnapoli1centro.it), which will outline the campaign details and how to participate. "Patient safety is our top priority," emphasized Medical Director Maria Corvino.
"The theme chosen by WHO for 2025 invites us to promote access to health services, active prevention through vaccinations and healthy lifestyles, early diagnosis of conditions such as overweight and childhood obesity, and combating adverse childhood experiences, such as abuse and mistreatment."
Among the flagship initiatives is the event "The Safety of the First Hug" at the Ospedale del Mare (Obstetrics and Gynecology Unit, Neonatology Unit and Nursery), scheduled for September 17 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm.
The meeting, aimed at pregnant women participating in birth support programs, will promote rooming-in and skin-to-skin contact, with a focus on safe perinatal care. This topic will be integrated into the support program programs in the coming months.
Another significant event will be held at the Basic Health District No. 28 (Via Zuccarini, Piazza Metro Scampia) from 9:30 am to 13:00 pm, with the "Caravan for Children's Health."
A multidisciplinary team will present three projects: the "Home Vaccination Service" to facilitate access to mandatory vaccinations in the first two years of life, the network of "Outpatient Clinics dedicated to combating childhood overweight and obesity," and the "Minor Protection Service," established to prevent and treat adverse childhood experiences, such as abuse, mistreatment, and trauma. ASL Napoli 1 Centro thus confirms its position at the forefront of promoting a culture of prevention and safety, with concrete initiatives to ensure safe and accessible care, especially for the most vulnerable.

The article discusses important initiatives for child safety, but it's unclear how the events are organized or whether there's clear information on how to participate. I hope more details are provided.
I've read that there are many interesting activities, but I haven't found any information on how families can sign up or actively participate in these initiatives. More practical information would be helpful.
