Vallo della Lucania - A violent head-on collision left a bloody mess yesterday evening on the Strada Statale 18 "Cilentana" highway in the Salerno area. The toll is tragic: a 56-year-old man lost his life in a devastating two-vehicle collision, which also left one seriously injured and brought traffic to a complete standstill for hours.
The tragedy occurred shortly before 23:30 PM, on the stretch of road between Pattano and Vallo della Lucania. According to initial reports from law enforcement, the accident involved a Fiat Punto and a Ford Fiesta, which collided in a violent head-on collision.
The force of the impact was such that it started a fire in one of the two cars, transforming the roadway into an inferno of flames and twisted metal.

Unfortunately, there was nothing that could be done for the 56-year-old driver of one of the vehicles, originally from the Pattano district of Vallo della Lucania: he died instantly due to the injuries he sustained.

The other person involved in the accident was rescued in critical condition. Emergency medical services responded immediately and rushed the injured person, who was in critical condition, to the San Luca Hospital in Vallo della Lucania.
Firefighters from the Vallo della Lucania detachment, along with the Carabinieri, responded to the accident site, extinguishing the flames and securing the vehicles. The technical survey and removal of the wreckage was lengthy and complex, forcing the closure of State Road 18 in both directions for several hours.
Law enforcement has launched an investigation to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the head-on collision, clarifying the causes that led the two vehicles to such a fatal collision. It is hoped that this latest road fatality will soon be shed light on the matter.
