Naples - An emergency that shows no signs of abating and that is attributable to parental carelessness, if not negligence. This is the alarm raised by doctors at the Santobono Pediatric Hospital in Naples, where a two-year-old girl was rushed to the emergency room on Sunday evening after ingesting a dose of hashish.
The incident, which occurred in Torre del Greco, is the third case of cannabinoid poisoning in very young children recorded at the facility in less than two weeks, beginning on September 23rd.
The symptoms, violent and unmistakable, immediately alarmed the medical staff: vomiting, profound drowsiness, and slowed reflexes—symptoms consistent with drug use. "She's only two years old: she had taken drugs," confirmed the toxicology tests performed in the emergency room, which revealed a high concentration of THC (the active ingredient in cannabis) in the little girl's blood.
The dynamics and the investigation: "Panetti in tasca"
The young patient, admitted to the pediatric emergency ward, fortunately responded well to treatment (decontamination and intensive hydration), and after a critical 24 hours, her condition improved to the point that she could be discharged today.

Meanwhile, the State Police have launched an investigation and have reported the incident to the Judiciary and Social Services, a standard procedure in these dramatic incidents. According to initial reports and the statements of the girl's father, a business owner, the ingestion was accidental.
The man told officers that he had stolen several small blocks of hashish from his employees and placed them in their pants pockets. The pants, left unattended at home, were then accessed by the girl, who chewed and ingested the substance. The parents' situation is now being investigated by authorities due to the possibility of insufficient surveillance.

It's truly worrying that parents aren't paying attention to their children. The story of the little girl who ate hashish is a clear warning sign that should make us think. Dangerous substances shouldn't be left lying around, especially in the home.
