It was supposed to be a day of celebration, but it turned into a night of chaos. The traditional pulling of the chariot Mirabella Eclano, one of the most heartfelt events in Irpinia, was tainted by a violent brawl broke out among groups of young people in the midst of celebrations, last September 20th. Weeks later, the carabinieri of the Company of Mirabella Eclano they closed the circle of investigations, reporting nine people for aggravated brawl and resisting a public official.
The incident, which occurred among the crowd watching the traditional carrying of the straw obelisk—a symbol of the community's identity and a legacy of popular culture—had created moments of great tension and fear.

A bittersweet moment for the community of Mirabella Eclano, which annually proudly celebrates one of Campania's oldest traditions. It is hoped that incidents like this will not dampen the festive spirit and devotion that have accompanied the "Tirata del Carro" for centuries.

It's truly unfortunate that the festival has become a time of violence. We hope young people understand the importance of tradition and don't ruin these events. The community deserves to celebrate in peace.
