Naples - A small-time drug dealer in the Barra hot spot has been checked. State Police have made another arrest as part of their extraordinary operations to crack down on drug trafficking in the Campania capital.

The officers of the San Giovanni-Barra Police Station targeted a 27-year-old Neapolitan man with a criminal record involving drugs: Cosimo Loffredo.

The arrest occurred yesterday evening on Via Gerardo Chiaromonte. During a routine patrol, officers intercepted and stopped a car. The subsequent personal and vehicle searches proved fruitless: the young man was found in possession of a significant quantity of narcotics, ready to be released on the illicit market.

Specifically, Loffredo was hiding three small bags containing approximately 9 grams of marijuana and, more significantly, an entire block of hashish weighing approximately 100 grams.

45 euros, believed to be the proceeds of drug dealing, were also seized.

An arrest in the Aprea clan's fiefdom

The territorial context of the arrest is crucial: via Chiaromonte falls within an area notoriously controlled by the Aprea clan, historically active in drug trafficking and extortion. The police's action, therefore, aims to dismantle the networks of petty crime that feed the coffers of organized crime.

Twenty-seven-year-old Cosimo Loffredo is by no means a new name in the police archives. He had already made headlines, again for drug-related matters. In a previous incident, the young man made a daring escape attempt to evade arrest, an attempt that also ended with him being handcuffed.

For these reasons - illicit possession of narcotics - the 27-year-old was arrested and placed at the disposal of the Judicial Authority for the usual procedures. Anti-drug checks by the Police Headquarters in Naples are expected to intensify in the coming weeks.

It's a fact that the police are right to stop drug dealing, but sometimes I wonder if it's enough to just arrest the dealers, because there are many other problems in the neighborhood and not just drug trafficking.
