Pozzuoli– A thin, chilling thread links two lives shattered on the same stretch of road. Last night, in Lucrino, Bruno Marotta, 36, lost his life in a tragic car accident.

And his car crashed just a few meters away from the exact spot where, just three months ago, another young man, Augusto Di Meo, 18, met an equally violent death. Local police, conducting initial investigations, are leading the charge that a sudden illness was the cause of the tragedy.

The dynamics of the accident

It was the hour when the nightlife in the hamlet of Lucrino, famous for its bars, begins to die down. Bruno Marotta was returning home in his small car. Suddenly, on Via Tripergola, a side street parallel to the busy Via Miliscola, he lost control of the vehicle.

According to an initial reconstruction, the car showed no signs of braking, veering sharply from its lane, hitting a road sign head-on and overturning several times before coming to rest, torn apart, in the center of the road.

The roar of the crash shattered the silence of the night, awakening residents, who were the first to raise the alarm. Emergency services immediately arrived on the scene, but there was nothing more that could be done for the 36-year-old. His lifeless body was removed from the vehicle and then transferred to the Forensic Medicine Center at the 118nd Polyclinic Hospital in Naples for an autopsy.

These "unrepeatable" tests are crucial to clarify any doubts: was it a heart attack, a collapse, or a fatal distraction, perhaps due to high speed? Meanwhile, the car has been seized and made available to the judicial authorities for technical assessments.

The cursed place and the mourning

Lucrino's journey continues to be marked by mourning. The parallel with the death of young Augusto Di Meo, which occurred in tragically similar circumstances just three months ago, is compelling and weighs heavily on the community. A "cursed point" that now unites two families in despair.

The grief over the passing of Bruno Marotta, a well-known and respected man in Pozzuoli, has exploded on social media, turning into a torrent of memories and affection.

The Lucrino group remembers him like this: "Words are of little use, but I would like to leave a thought here, in this group of our town. Today Lucrino mourns a son, a brother, a friend, an acquaintance who gave smiles, affection, and conversation to all of us.
My bond is almost brotherly, Bruno Marotta you have left an unfillable void.

It's unacceptable. I never wanted to write these words; I would have much preferred to tell each other face to face, recalling all our childhood and teenage moments, our work experiences, Napoli, various chats, a quick hello at the deli, but for a few years the most talked about topic was the joy of our grandchildren. Your eyes lit up when I called you Uncle Bruno. I will always carry you in my heart. A hug to the family, and I believe I speak on behalf of all of Lucrino: we share your immense pain.

Pozzuoli's mayor, Gigi Manzoni, also joined the chorus of grief, releasing an official statement: "On behalf of myself and the entire municipal administration, I wish to express my deepest condolences for the tragic passing of this 36-year-old man... In this moment of profound grief, I join his family and friends in expressing my deepest sympathy."

As the city ponders yet another road tragedy, for Bruno Marotta and Augusto Di Meo, the same bitter geography of the end remains: a straight road, a pole, and a community that, for the second time in a few months, is mourning a piece of its future.

It's very sad to see how certain roads become sites of tragedy. Every time I read news like this, it makes me think about how fragile our lives are. I hope there are more checks and safety measures to prevent further accidents.
