Santa Maria Capua Vetere – The Court of Santa Maria Capua Vetere has significantly reduced the sentence handed down to Gennaro Morgillo, 40, considered a leading figure in organized crime in the area between San Felice a Cancello, the Suessola Valley, and the Caudina Valley.
Accepting the arguments presented by his lawyer, Vittorio Fucci, the judges recognized the principle of continuation between the various already definitive convictions, recalculating the overall sentence from 24 years of imprisonment to 13 years and 10 months.
Morgillo, detained since 2020, had accumulated a series of convictions for serious crimes, including criminal conspiracy aimed at drug trafficking in a vast area spanning the provinces of Naples, Caserta, and Benevento.
According to investigations, the network he directed had its epicenter between the Suessola Valley and the Caudina Valley, where drug supplies and distribution were coordinated.

During the hearing, the Prosecutor's Office opposed the request for recognition of continuation, arguing that the various criminal episodes could not be traced back to a single plan. However, the Court upheld the defense's argument, which instead highlighted the existence of a unified logic in the contested conduct, which occurred within the same operational and temporal context.
Thanks to the judges' decision, Morgillo's sentence was reduced by approximately 11 years, bringing it to a total of 13 years and 10 months. Considering that the boss has already served approximately seven years in prison, including early release benefits, he may soon be eligible for alternative measures to prison, such as day release or probation.
Lawyer Fucci, according to leaks, is ready to file the relevant request in the coming weeks. If granted, it would open up the prospect of a gradual release from prison for Morgillo, after years spent behind bars for one of the most serious drug trafficking cases in the Caserta area.

It's strange how such a long sentence can be reduced for a serious crime. I don't know if it's right or wrong, but I think justice should be more severe with those who have harmed so many people. Drugs are harmful.
