Villaricca – A few moments made the difference between tragedy and a happy ending yesterday afternoon in Villaricca, where a fire broke out in an apartment, seriously endangering the life of an elderly disabled woman.
Only the timely and courageous intervention of the Carabinieri of the Radiomobile Section of the Marano Company prevented a tragedy.
Fire on the first floor, alarm called 112
The alarm was raised when flames began to erupt from a first-floor apartment at Via Filippo Turati 32. After receiving a report to 112, the military immediately arrived on the scene, finding the building already filled with thick black smoke.
The first step was to secure the area: the Carabinieri immediately evacuated all the building's residents, placing them in safety while awaiting the arrival of the Fire Brigade.
The race against time to save the old woman
During the residents' roll call, however, a crucial absence emerged: the woman who lived in the affected apartment, an 80-year-old woman, did not respond.

Without hesitation and defying imminent danger, the Carabinieri made a heroic decision. Braving the thick blanket of smoke that made the air unbreathable and visibility virtually nonexistent, they forced their way into the building.
Rescue in arms
The apartment has been located in flamesThe officers entered and, wading through the heat and smoke, found the elderly woman trapped in her bedroom. In a gesture of pure promptness and humanity, they picked her up and carried her out of the building, bringing her to safety.
Shortly thereafter, the firefighters arrived, quickly extinguishing the fire, and 118 personnel provided first aid. Fortunately, despite the shock and smoke inhalation, the woman's condition was deemed good.
The Carabinieri's intervention, the result of courage and clarity in an extremely dangerous situation, prevented a domestic incident from turning into a tragedy, earning the residents' praise and gratitude.
