An episode of violence and squalor has shaken the community of Giffoni Valle Piana. A 54-year-old man was arrested on charges of sexually abusing his partner's seven-year-old daughter.
The precautionary measure of house arrest was ordered by the investigating judge of the Court of Salerno, at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office, which coordinated the Carabinieri investigation.
According to the reconstruction, the nightmare began last August, within the home of the mother, who had been separated for a few months and was romantically linked to the alleged tormentor.

A story that wounds twice
The family context – already marked by a recent separation – is thus transformed into the most unexpected and painful scenario: the house, a place that should represent protection and safety, instead becomes the scene of violence.
A betrayal not only of her mother's trust, but above all of the innocence of a seven-year-old girl who should have known only games and carefree moments.
After the usual formalities, the 54-year-old was taken to his home under house arrest, pending further judicial developments.
A submerged emergency
The Giffoni Valle Piana case fits into the alarming picture of child abuse, a phenomenon that, too often, remains hidden behind a wall of family silence or shame. Each new investigation brings to light not only the brutality of individual incidents, but also the urgent need for stronger commitment from institutions and civil society to protect victims and prevent similar tragedies.

What happened in Giffoni Valle Piana is truly terrible. I can't understand how it could get to this point. Children should be protected and not suffer violence at home. This must stop.
