Giugliano – A veritable illegal landfill in the heart of the coastal strip. This is what the Carabinieri of the Varcaturo station, along with officers from the Pozzuoli Forestry Unit, discovered during a check along Via Licola Mare, a road repeatedly reported by residents for its deterioration and waste dumping.

The person arrested was Tiberio Di Francia, 64, a local man already known to law enforcement. Officers searched his property, an area of approximately 650 square meters, which he had converted into an open-air warehouse.

Here, according to what was ascertained, Di Francia would have set up and managed a illegal landfill, where waste of all kinds had been piled up, for a total volume estimated at 350 cubic meters.

An impressive accumulation, which not only disfigured the landscape but also represented a serious environmental threat to an already ecologically fragile area, including pine forests, the coastline, and residential areas.

The 64-year-old was arrested on charges of unauthorized waste management and is now awaiting trial. The area has been cordoned off, while the Carabinieri continue their investigations to determine whether other individuals were involved in the activity.

The operation is part of intensified controls along the coastal strip between Giugliano and Castel Volturno, an area where illegal waste dumping and uncontrolled disposal have been a major issue for years, transforming roads and land into illegal landfills.

It's unacceptable that there are still people who disrespect the environment and dump waste in places like this. It's important that the authorities continue to carry out checks to prevent situations like this. We hope there will be more interventions.
