Naples – A routine Carabinieri checkpoint at the Marianella station resulted in an arrest for possession of an illegal weapon.
Vincenzo Ostrowski, 54, from Naples, already known to the police, was arrested after being caught with a 7,65 caliber semi-automatic pistol carefully hidden in the engine compartment of his car.
The man, stopped late yesterday evening on Via Emilio Scaglione, in the Chiaiano neighborhood, immediately displayed a nervous demeanor. While checking his documents, officers noticed his agitation and decided to conduct a more thorough investigation.
The discovery in the engine compartment
The initial search revealed two packets of hashish and four pre-packaged joints, apparently for personal use. But the 54-year-old's nervousness further aroused the Carabinieri's suspicions, and they decided to conduct a thorough search of the vehicle.
It was thus that, by dismantling some parts of the hood, the police They found a 7,65 caliber semi-automatic pistol, without serial number or manufacturer's mark, hidden among the engine components.
The weapon was loaded with six rounds in the magazine, ready for use, and accompanied by two more rounds of spare ammunition.
The discovery confirmed the military's suspicions: it was not a simple check on an agitated driver, but a potentially dangerous discovery, which could have preluded many other scenarios.

The arrest and the investigations
Ostrowski was immediately arrested for illegal possession and carrying of a concealed weapon and transferred to Poggioreale prison, pending a validation hearing.
The gun was seized and will be subjected to a ballistics test to determine whether it was used in violent incidents or acts of intimidation in the North Naples area.
The investigators, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Naples, do not exclude that the weapon could be part of an illegal supply network linked to criminal circuits in the area between Chiaiano, Marianella and Scampia, areas already monitored for the presence of groups dedicated to drug dealing and the possession of illegal weapons.
Intensified controls in the northern area neighborhoods
The operation is part of a broader territorial control effort implemented by the Carabinieri of the Naples Provincial Command, who in recent weeks have intensified patrols in the city's suburbs, with particular attention to neighborhoods where organized crime still maintains logistical bases and arsenals.
In the last ten days alone, five firearms have been seized and seven people arrested in Chiaiano, Piscinola, and Secondigliano.
This figure confirms the Carabinieri's constant vigilance in combating the circulation of illegal handguns, often used to settle scores or intimidate small business owners.
The profile of the arrested
Born in Naples on November 11, 1971, Vincenzo Ostrowski is a resident of the northern area of the city and is already known for minor drug-related criminal convictions.
Investigators are now trying to determine whether the man was simply a holder or whether he was transporting the weapon on behalf of a third party, a possibility that has not been ruled out.
