Naples – A clearing operation in a vast area of spontaneous greenery, spanning approximately 10.000 square meters at the entrance to Via Epomeo, has sparked protests among a group of residents. The newly formed Civic Committee "Innamorati di Partenope" has raised the alarm.
The heart of the protest is the roundabout on Via Giustiniano, where, in the absence of information signs, construction work is underway that residents believe has no clear purpose. Committee representatives Carmine Attanasio, Sergio Livio, and Donatella Porta denounced the incident.
The request for clarity and a concrete proposal
"The work being done is unclear," stated Attanasio, Livio, and Porta, who urgently request intervention from the City of Naples to clarify the nature of the project. Beyond transparency, the committee is putting forward a constructive and already regulated proposal.
The group is asking that the area, likely privately owned, be designated a public park, pursuant to Municipal Resolution No. 32.

The redevelopment of the "entrance door"
The mobilization doesn't stop with the excavation. The committee is focusing on the redevelopment of the entire area, considered a true "gateway" between Via Epomeo and Via Giustiniano.
In a direct petition to Environment Councilor Vincenzo Santagada, residents are calling for two specific measures: the installation of an automatic irrigation system for the roundabout's flowerbeds and the restoration of the monumental fountain, which has not been functioning for decades.
An appeal that combines territorial protection with a long-term vision, calling on institutions not only to monitor but to transform a critical situation into an opportunity for the entire community.

I think it's important to discuss these issues, but I wonder if the work being done is really necessary. Citizens should have a greater say in decisions that impact their daily lives.
Speaking of public works, it seems unbelievable and a huge waste of resources to finance the construction of extensive bike lanes in the Traiano district... I live in the neighborhood intensely and can confirm that there are no cyclists in the Soccavo neighborhood. About two months ago, I saw three cyclists riding along Via dell'Epomeo in the early morning... on the other hand, there are a huge number of motorcycles, their riders without helmets. The bike lanes under construction have narrowed the roadway, caused the loss of hundreds of parking spaces, and limited parking near public buildings, markets, etc. The waste of public money is evident... let's do something!!!
