Naples – Another afternoon of violence unfolded at a Neapolitan school. This afternoon, Carabinieri officers from the Naples Central Company had to respond urgently to the Alfonso Casanova secondary school on Via San Sebastiano, in the Decumani area, the heart of the city's historic center, where a 15-year-old boy was injured in an assault.
The dynamics of the attack
According to initial reports, the young student was approached and surrounded by a group of his peers shortly after entering the school gates, as the students were dispersing to go home.
The argument apparently broke out for reasons that investigators are still unclear about, but within moments the tension escalated.
During the heated argument, one of the attackers pulled out a knife and repeatedly stabbed the 15-year-old in the side. Fortunately, the injured boy, after being promptly treated and taken to the hospital, was not found to be in life-threatening condition.
However, the emergency room doctors who examined him found injuries that required a 10-day prognosis.

A worrying and recurring phenomenon
This latest episode of youth violence shines a spotlight on a phenomenon that, unfortunately, is not unique to the Naples area. Increasingly, schools in Naples and the surrounding province are becoming sites of bullying, fights, and armed assaults, with minors both as victims and perpetrators.
In recent weeks alone, other schools in the city have been the scene of student clashes, thefts, and incidents of intimidation, raising grave concerns among families and teachers, and prompting numerous calls for increased security in the areas surrounding schools.
Investigations underway
The Carabinieri are currently combing the area to gather any witnesses and acquire video footage from private surveillance cameras and the public video surveillance system, to reconstruct the exact sequence of events and identify all members of the attacking group.
The investigation, coordinated by the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office, is proceeding rapidly to identify and track down those responsible, while the school and community are once again wondering how to stem a seemingly unstoppable spiral of violence.

What's happening in Naples' schools is truly worrying. Children should feel safe at school and not experience these terrible episodes of violence. I hope the authorities take serious measures to stop this situation.
