Naples – More bloodshed among the youths, another knife in the hands of a young man. This time the victim is an eighteen-year-old Neapolitan, wounded overnight on Via Petrarca, in the Posillipo neighborhood, while attempting to break up a fight between his peers.

According to the reconstruction of the incident by officers from the Posillipo Police Station, who responded to a report from the emergency room at Fatebenefratelli Hospital, the boy intervened to restore calm during an altercation that broke out in the street, but one of those present pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the hand and side.

The young man, rushed to the hospital, was treated and released with a 14-day prognosis. His condition is not concerning, but fears remain for an episode that could easily have turned tragic. State Police officers have launched an investigation to reconstruct the events and identify the perpetrator of the attack.

This latest case of youth violence is part of an increasingly alarming picture that, in recent weeks, has seen Naples and the province be the scene of similar episodes: the 15-year-old stabbed in the historic center by a peer after school, the boy injured in Castellammare after a fight over trivial reasons, and the numerous incidents recorded in Neapolitan nightlife where, too often, arguments are resolved with blades.

A common thread ties these stories together: the indiscriminate use of knives among adolescents, which have become a sort of "status symbol" or identity tool, a distorted way of asserting one's strength or of not feeling excluded from the group.

A dangerous drift, which speaks of a profound fragility and a growing unease: boys who confuse respect with fear, and virility with violence.

A collective reflection is needed—by families, schools, and institutions—to mend the educational fabric that is tearing itself apart. Because behind every knife wound lies not only a crime, but the mark of a society that has lost the language of listening and empathy.

The investigation into the Posillipo case continues: the police are examining surveillance cameras in the area to identify the attacker and check for any witnesses.
