A severe blow has been dealt to the De Micco–De Martino clan, a historic criminal group from Ponticelli, considered one of the top Camorra organizations in eastern Naples. The Court has issued a harsh verdict against 44 defendants, including bosses and associates, accused of mafia association and a long list of related crimes, including extortion, drug trafficking, weapons trafficking, and violence against rival clans.
According to the prosecution, the members of the gang acted to consolidate their hegemonic control of the Ponticelli neighborhood and surrounding areas through shootings, intimidation, and targeted killings against members of the rival De Luca Bossa–Minichini–Casella–Aprea cartel.
The organization, led by brothers and allies De Micco and De Martino, is said to have imposed its criminal power on the territory, securing a monopoly on drug dealing locations, the systematic collection of protection money from entrepreneurs and traders, and a widespread network of supporters and connivances capable of guaranteeing cover and hiding places for the group's top leaders.
According to the DDA's reconstruction, the structure was headed by Marco De Micco, the historic boss of the Conocal district, who served as the organization's director and leader. The various territorial "groups" reported to him, including the one led by Francesco and Salvatore De Martino, and a dense network of operational contacts and "message carriers" who were responsible for controlling the streets, managing the money, and drug dealing activities.
