Salerno – Two men have been arrested by the State Police on charges of being responsible for two violent muggings that took place between Salerno and Vietri sul Mare at the end of the summer.
The investigating judge of the Salerno Court, at the request of the Salerno Public Prosecutor's Office, issued a precautionary house arrest order against them for the crimes of snatching, aggravated improper robbery, and aggravated personal injury.

Violence on the street

The first incident dates back to August 30th, during the height of summer traffic in Salerno's city center. According to investigators' reconstruction, the two men, riding a high-powered motorcycle, approached a woman walking along the sidewalk, snatched her purse from her, and fled at full speed through the city center's alleys.

A few days later, the couple struck again, this time in Vietri sul Mare, along the coast.

The victim, an elderly woman in her eighties, was attacked using the same method, but the force of the attack caused her to fall to the ground. She was dragged for several meters, suffering a fractured humerus and other injuries.

The investigation, conducted by officers from the Salerno Flying Squad, began immediately after the complaint was filed and, thanks to the analysis of video surveillance cameras and the comparison of various investigative evidence, allowed the identity of the alleged perpetrators to be traced.
The identification of the vehicle used, a large-engined motorcycle noted in both locations of the robberies, was also crucial.

The two men—both residents of the Agro Nocerino-Sarnese area and already known to law enforcement for property crimes—were subsequently issued an arrest warrant and placed under house arrest pending trial.
