Naples – The weather warning issued by the regional Civil Protection Department has been extended to the entire coastal strip of Campania. Starting today and for the next 24 hours, it will affect much of the region, from Caserta to Cilento.

The new, rapidly evolving disturbance has prompted the Functional Center to issue a new yellow alert, supplementing and extending the one already in effect in zones 1 and 3: the Campanian plain, Naples, the islands, the Vesuvian area, the Sorrento-Amalfi Peninsula, the Sarno Mountains, and the Picentini Mountains.

Starting this afternoon, the warning has been extended to areas 5, 6, and 8—Tusciano and Alto Sele, Piana Sele and Alto Cilento, and Basso Cilento—thus covering the entire regional coastline.

Sudden showers and gusts of wind

Severe thunderstorms and sudden rainfall are expected, with locally violent and rapidly evolving phenomena. The Civil Protection Department warns that the weather forecast is characterized by high uncertainty, making it difficult to accurately predict the location and duration of showers.

Rain may be accompanied by hail, lightning, and gusts of wind, particularly along coastal and hilly areas.

Storm surges and damage to exposed structures, such as roofs, scaffolding, and billboards, due to wave motion and the stress of strong winds, cannot be ruled out.

The main critical issues expected include flooding in urban centers, rising water levels, water flow on roads, rockfall, and landslides in inland and mountainous areas.

The Civil Protection Department urges the public to exercise extreme caution, especially when traveling, and recommends avoiding underpasses, areas at risk of flooding or landslides, and not standing under trees or unstable structures.

Municipal Operations Centers activated

Municipalities affected by the alert have been asked to activate their Municipal Operations Centers (COCs) and adopt all preventive measures outlined in their local emergency plans. Monitoring the condition of public greenery, with particular attention to tall trees and city parks, is also recommended.

The Regional Operations Room will remain active throughout the alert, in constant contact with local administrations and emergency services, to monitor the evolving weather situation and provide real-time updates.
