Instead of providing assistance, the perpetrators abandoned it, tying it to a streetlight pole, and then fled with another horse they had with them.
It was only thanks to the timely intervention of the Local Police arzano, directed by the colonel Biagio Chiariello, that the incident did not turn tragic. The officers, alerted by some citizens, found Rocky on the ground, visibly distressed and with widespread injuries. They immediately alerted the veterinarians and began an investigation to identify those responsible.
The images from the video surveillance footage allowed to identify the two men involved: one of them is a former city councilor already known to the police for a criminal record.

The two men were reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office of North Naples for mistreatment and abandonment of animals, while Rocky was seized and entrusted to the care of veterinarians. Outrage and anger flooded social media, where animal rights groups and citizens expressed solidarity with the officers for their intervention but also outrage at the brutality of the act. Meanwhile, calls for increase penalties for those who mistreat animals, so that stories like Rocky's never happen again.
