This morning, passengers on a WizzAir flight departing from Sharm el-Sheikh and bound for Rome Fiumicino experienced moments of fear. Due to suspected smoke in the cargo hold, the plane was forced to make a safe landing at Capodichino Airport in Naples, where emergency procedures were immediately initiated.
On board the flight, in addition to numerous tourists returning from vacations on the Red Sea, were also journalists and media workers who had covered the peace summit on Gaza held in Egypt, which was also attended by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
The captain, after detecting an anomaly signaled by the sensors, contacted the Naples control tower and requested immediate landing authorization. Firefighters, ambulances, and airport security personnel were mobilized to the Capodichino apron, ready to intervene if necessary.
The aircraft landed safely and all passengers were safely disembarked.

Among the passengers were several national media reporters, who reported moments of tension on board, though without any signs of panic: "We heard an announcement from the captain about a small technical problem and the need to land in Naples," one of the journalists reported. "Everything went calmly, but when we saw the fire engines approaching, we realized it wasn't just a precaution."
Passenger handling and dispersal operations proceeded smoothly thanks to the support of ground staff from Gesac, the company that manages the Naples airport. The incident had no consequences for passengers or significant impact on air traffic, which resumed normal operations approximately an hour later.
ENAC (Italian Civil Aviation Authority) has launched investigations to determine the cause of the anomaly reported by on-board systems, while WizzAir stated in a statement that "the safety of passengers and crew is the company's absolute priority."

I agree, safety must come first. But it also seems strange to me that there were no warnings before boarding, if there were already signs of an anomaly in the systems.
Yes, but I wonder why it wasn't noticed before that there was a problem with the sensors. It's important that thorough checks are done to avoid similar situations in the future.
The WizzAir plane's landing in Naples was a bit of a strange experience, but it seems everything went well. The passengers were evacuated without incident, and no one was injured, which is a good thing. While the idea of smoke on a plane is never a good thing, at least they did what they could.
