Battipaglia – First the threats, then the flames. A pizzeria in Battipaglia was set on fire after the owner received extortion demands. The incident was shed light on an investigation coordinated by the Salerno Prosecutor's Office, which led to the execution of a precautionary measure against a man accused of attempted extortion and arson.

This morning, State Police officers executed the order issued by the investigating judge of the Salerno Court, which placed the suspect under house arrest.

According to investigators' reconstruction, the man approached the shopkeeper and asked for money as "protection." When the victim refused, he decided to take action, setting fire to the shop to punish him and send out a message of intimidation.

The investigation, launched immediately after the fire that severely damaged the premises, allowed investigators to gather serious and consistent evidence against the suspect. Surveillance camera footage and testimonies gathered from local shopkeepers and residents were crucial, it emerged.
