The 27-year-old had presented himself at the Benevento Immigration Office to request political asylum. He was wanted by the Syracuse Prosecutor's Office for aiding and abetting illegal immigration.
Benevento – A botched attempt to evade justice ended in handcuffs. State Police in Benevento arrested a 27-year-old Egyptian citizen, wanted on suspicion of being a human trafficker, after he presented himself at the Immigration Office of the Police Headquarters to file a request for political asylum using a false name.
The arrest was made possible thanks to the diligence of the officers and the investigations carried out by the Forensic Police Department. Despite attempts to conceal his true identity, fingerprints and cross-checks allowed the police to trace his true identity.
It thus emerged that the 27-year-old was the recipient of an arrest warrant for a criminal suspect issued by the Syracuse Prosecutor's Office on October 3, 2022.

The charges against the man are particularly serious and involve aiding and abetting illegal immigration. The Egyptian citizen, in conjunction with others, is under investigation for organizing and promoting the transport of numerous Egyptian and Moroccan migrants to the Italian coast.
As often happens in these cases, the Syracuse investigation highlights a further, dramatic aggravating factor: the organization of the journey would have exposed the migrants to life and limb, given the unsuitability of the vessel used for the crossing.
The 27-year-old was then formally arrested and placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities to answer the charges involving him in international human trafficking.
