Fear erupted on Monday evening in Benevento, where a 58-year-old man was arrested by police on charges of threatening and resisting a public official after a violent argument with his wife.
The emergency call to 113 came in shortly after 10:00 PM: an excited voice reported a domestic dispute in progress in a city residence. A patrol from the Flying Squad arrived on the scene within minutes, immediately securing the woman and escorting her to the lower floors of the building to avoid further consequences.
The man, however, appeared to be in a clearly altered state and was holding a kitchen knife approximately 22 centimetres long in a threatening manner.

A long and delicate long-distance negotiation ensued, during which the 58-year-old even threw a chair at the officers, fortunately missing them. After a few tense minutes, the officers managed to calm him down and convince him to put down his weapon.
The man was then stopped and taken to the police station, where he was formally arrested. The knife was seized. The 58-year-old is now in Benevento prison, awaiting a sentencing hearing.

It's amazing how people can sometimes lose control. There are warning signs we should have noticed earlier, but sometimes we don't see them. Violence is never a solution.
The situation is very dire and makes one reflect on how such terrible things can happen in families. We hope the woman is safe and the man gets help for his problems. It's sad.
