Capaccio Paestum – Five months of suffering in the intensive care unit, between hopes and agonizing silences, ended with a cruel epilogue.
The 55-year-old farmer injured in a dramatic tractor accident last May has died at the "San Giovanni di Dio e Ruggi d'Aragona" hospital in Salerno. The fatality occurred on May 26, on a sunny spring day that should have been routine for a man dedicated to the land.
In the Feudo area of Capaccio-Paestum—the green heart of the Sele Plain, where olive groves and vineyards blend into the hilly landscape—the farmer was working on a private farm. At the wheel of a tractor equipped with a mulcher, an essential tool for land maintenance, the man lost control of the vehicle for reasons still shrouded in mystery.
According to initial reports from the Carabinieri of the local Capaccio station, the vehicle overturned violently, falling into a ditch and crushing the operator under its weight.

A wild night in Eboli, the nightlife turns into a ring: a double brawl breaks out on Viale Amendola.
Firefighters from the Agropoli detachment, Carabinieri, and an Italian Red Cross ambulance rushed to the scene of the accident. The man, who was urgently extricated from the twisted wreckage, immediately appeared to be in desperate condition: multiple trauma, exposed fractures, and internal injuries necessitated the intervention of a helicopter rescue. Rushed to the "Ruggi" hospital in Salerno—one of the most advanced trauma care facilities in Campania—the 55-year-old was placed in a state of limbo in intensive care.
Doctors and nurses fought alongside him for 152 days, including assisted ventilation, surgeries, and constant monitoring. But the wounds to his chest, spine, and vital organs proved a treacherous enemy, gradually sapping his strength until the inevitable.
The news of his death, which arrived this morning, struck the family and the entire community of Capaccio like a bolt from the blue. The farmer, described by neighbors as a quiet pillar of the area—a family man, a devoted husband, and a tireless worker—leaves behind his wife and two teenage children, overwhelmed by a grief that goes beyond the personal loss.
This tragedy refocuses attention on the perils of Italian agriculture, a sector that accounts for thousands of accidents annually, according to INAIL data: in 2024, over 1.500 cases were recorded in Campania alone, with overturning agricultural vehicles among the leading causes of death. Industry experts are calling for increased training, mandatory vehicle maintenance, and incentives for the adoption of protected cabins and stability sensors.
