Capri – The tourist paradise of Capri woke up to bad weather today: a gust of wind transformed a routine port maneuver into a tense moment, with a ferry and a docked hydrofoil colliding slightly.
Fortunately, the accident—which occurred this morning in the crowded port of Marina Grande—caused no injuries or structural damage, allowing the two vessels to resume service without a hitch.
But the episode is a wake-up call for a Gulf of Naples battered by gusts of up to 60 km/h and rough seas that have already caused cancellations of trips to nearby islands.
It was just after 10:00 a.m. when the Caremar motor vessel Isola di Vulcano approached the quay to dock passengers arriving from Naples.
A sudden gust of south-westerly wind, fueled by the storm front that has been raging across Campania for hours, diverted the vessel's trajectory, causing it to crash into the Snav Sirius hydrofoil, already moored and ready to depart for Sorrento.

"A minor lateral contact," as port authorities described it, which caused only a slight scratch on the hydrofoil's hull and a shock wave felt by the few tourists on board.
No passengers were injured: the approximately 50 passengers on the ferry were safely disembarked, while the crew handled the situation professionally, avoiding panic. The incident comes amid weather alerts throughout the region.
A strong storm hit the Gulf of Naples at 12:30
Starting at 12:30, a severe storm hit Naples and its gulf, bringing heavy rainfall and winds that created rough seas, forcing shipping companies to cancel several routes to Capri, Ischia, and Procida.
Campania's Civil Protection Department has issued a yellow-level warning for hydrogeological risk, excluding only inland areas such as Alta Irpinia. The Naples Public Prosecutor's Office has opened a routine investigation to determine any culprits, but attention remains focused on the weather: commuters and vacationers are urged to monitor airline updates and prioritize air travel during these volatile times. Capri is holding firm, but the wind is a reminder that even island dreams can falter.
