Pratella – A new case of domestic violence has rocked the small town in the upper Caserta province. A 63-year-old man, resident of Pratella, was arrested by the Carabinieri on charges of illegal possession of a firearm after attacking his 85-year-old live-in mother, who was injured and hospitalized.
The incident occurred on the morning of Sunday, October 13th. According to the reconstruction of the incident by officers from the Prata Sannita Station, who responded with the Operational Unit of the Piedimonte Matese Company, the woman allegedly had a heated argument with her son, which escalated into violence: the man, in a fit of rage, allegedly pushed her from behind, causing her to fall heavily to the ground.
The mother's confession and fear
The elderly woman, taken to the Piedimonte Matese emergency room, suffered a suspected broken arm. She told the police not only about the attack, but also about a difficult family situation: for over a year, her son had been exhibiting aggressive and threatening behavior, with increasingly frequent violent episodes.
During her testimony, the woman added a disturbing detail: she suspected the man of having a firearm hidden in the house.
The search and the discovery
The report prompted the Carabinieri to launch a house search at the two's home.

During the searches, a bayonet with a 23,5-centimeter blade was also found, kept on a shelf in the same cabinet.
The man, who did not have a valid gun license, was unable to provide an explanation as to the origin of the gun.
The 63-year-old was then arrested in flagrante delicto for illegal possession of a firearm and taken, after completing the usual formalities, to the Santa Maria Capua Vetere prison, where he was placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
The weapon and bayonet have been seized, while investigations continue to determine whether the gun was used in previous incidents or came from illicit sources.
Meanwhile, the mother, still under medical observation, has been entrusted to the care of local health workers and social services.

It's a very sad story, and one that makes us think about how family dynamics can degenerate into violence. We hope the woman gets the help she needs and that social services can do their part to improve her situation.
