Caserta – Caserta Police Chief Andrea Grassi has issued three urban banishment orders (DASPO) against three minors of Egyptian origin involved in a knife attack that occurred last August near the gardens of Piazza Carlo III, in front of the Royal Palace of Caserta.
The victim of the attack was a fellow countryman, also very young, who was struck by slashes and injured in circumstances that immediately caused social alarm.
According to investigators' reconstruction, the three minors—already arrested immediately after the incident—are charged with aggravated assault and providing false information to State Police officers. This behavior, according to the Police Headquarters, denotes a level of danger incompatible with public life in the city, especially in an area with high tourist traffic.
Preventive measures: a 2-year stop
The Caserta Police Headquarters' Anti-Crime Division began an investigation immediately after the incident, deeming it necessary to take action that was not only repressive but also preventative. This prompted Police Chief Grassi to apply the urban DASPO (Daspo), a measure introduced in recent years to combat incidents of violence and degradation in sensitive areas.
2-year ban for minors already known to law enforcement, with a criminal record;
1 year for the other two boys involved.
The measure prohibits access to bars, public venues, and gathering places, in an effort to keep young people away from risky environments while simultaneously protecting the safety of residents and tourists.
Piazza Carlo III under the spotlight
The attack occurred in a strategic and sensitive area: the gardens overlooking the Royal Palace of Caserta, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the beating heart of the city's tourist attractions. It's a popular meeting place for young people, but also an area traversed daily by families and visitors. It was precisely the setting of the crime—a symbolic and highly visible urban center—that prompted the authorities to take decisive action.
