Caserta – Four days of agony, a battle against his injuries, too serious. A final, futile hospitalization at the Sant'Anna and San Sebastiano hospital in Caserta. For Gennaro Nuzzo, 61, originally from San Felice a Cancello, there was nothing that could be done. His heart stopped, muting the voice of another worker killed in a workplace accident, yet another name to add to a tragic and endless list.
The tragedy occurred last Tuesday in a warehouse on Via Cappuccini, in the municipality of Arienzo. Gennaro, like every day, was at work. He was on the building's roof, about seven meters in the air, when suddenly the roof collapsed beneath him. There was no escape. The fall was fatal.
Rushed to the hospital, doctors could do nothing but assist him during an unequal fight that lasted until his last breath.

On the investigation front, the Carabinieri are working to reconstruct the exact circumstances of the accident and determine any responsibilities. Following the tragedy, the construction site was immediately seized.
The death of Gennaro Nuzzo has sparked outrage among the unions. The local CGIL, CISL, and UIL unions are sounding the alarm, sounding like a grim litany. "Yet another collective defeat," they declared in a statement. "Work continues to be a killing field. We can no longer stand by helplessly as these silent massacres unfold. It's time to allocate more resources to inspections and demand compliance with safety regulations. Every life lost at work is a defeat for society as a whole."
Another worker who won't return home. Another case reopening the wounds of a national emergency, while we wait to understand the cause of a collapse and a death that, perhaps, could have been avoided.
