Naples - Law enforcement and health authorities have implemented zero tolerance for illegality and serious health and hygiene violations. A major joint operation led to the immediate closure of the market located on Via Vicinale Trencia, in the Pianura neighborhood of Naples. The main reason: the temporary permits for managing the sales spaces had expired in 2020.

The joint operation involved the Soccavo Operational Unit of the Naples Local Police, the Carabinieri of the Pianura Station, the staff of the ASL Napoli 1 Centro and the support of Asia Napoli.

During the checks, twenty traders were checked. Seven other vendors fled at the sight of the patrols, hastily abandoning their merchandise at the scene.

The irregularities found were not limited to administrative documentation. An official statement explains that the violations involved:

The lack of authorizations for the occupation of public land.

The installation of non-compliant structures. The sale of food products exposed to the elements without any hygienic protection.

The operation resulted in significant fines and seizures. Overall, fines amounting to approximately €50.000 for administrative violations and €15.000 for health and hygiene violations were issued.

A large quantity of merchandise was seized: approximately 1.300 kilograms of fruit and vegetables, over 150 items of clothing, and numerous pieces of equipment used to set up the stations. Among the seized items was a self-built cart for the mobile distribution of food and beverages, found completely lacking authorizations and the minimum health requirements.

The seized goods had two fates: the fruit and vegetables found suitable were sent to the city zoo, while the non-reusable materials, in poor hygienic condition, were handed over to Asia for proper disposal.

The operation also expanded to address other crimes. The Carabinieri charged three administrative violations for possession of narcotics for personal use. Additionally, five traffic violations were issued, including failure to have vehicles inspected, driving without a helmet, and failing to display driving documents. This joint action reaffirms the authorities' commitment to restoring law and safety in the Pianura neighborhood.

It's a serious matter that the authorities aren't monitoring these markets more closely. Violations are increasing, and public health is at risk. More must be done to ensure the safety of all citizens, especially in neighborhoods like Pianura.
