“We are talking about numbers that tell of an infinite torment – adds Ciambriello –. And if we add to the suicides the 36 deaths in prison While the scale of the tragedy remains unclear, it's clear. People continue to die behind bars, often in silence. The guarantor directly calls politics into question, asking for a profound change of direction: "We need more educators, psychologists, and language mediators. It's not enough to build new prisons or boast about some renovations. It's urgent to invest in alternative measures to detention and in the human and psychological support of prisoners. Only in this way can this silent massacre be stopped.”
