Cimitile - A municipal waste transfer area transformed into a veritable illegal landfill in the heart of the Nola area. This is what the Carabinieri of the Naples NOE (National Environmental Protection Agency) discovered, along with officers from the Nola Company. In the past few hours, they have executed a precautionary seizure order issued by the investigating judge of the Nola Court, at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office, against a site located on Via San Donato in Cimitile.
The area, officially designated for the "transfer" of municipal solid waste (MSW) collected in the municipalities of Cimitile and Comiziano, was instead used as an illegal dump, where waste was abandoned directly on the ground or stored in roll-off containers exposed to the elements, posing serious environmental risks.
The investigation, conducted by the Carabinieri of the Ecological Operations Unit and the Cimitile Station, stemmed from a complaint from the Municipality's Environment Councillor, who had reported a suspected spill from the nearby Municipality of Comiziano inside the former municipal slaughterhouse on Via San Donato.
The company SIA (Soluzioni Integrate Ambientali) srl, responsible for managing waste collection and transportation in the two municipalities, is under investigation. According to the findings, the area—formally a parking lot for company vehicles—was allegedly used for unauthorized waste disposal, resulting in the continuous accumulation of both non-hazardous and hazardous waste, including containers of paint, solvents, enamel, and used oil.
The images acquired by the video surveillance systems allowed investigators to document that the illegal activity had been ongoing since at least February 2025, creating a concrete risk of soil pollution due to waste seepage.

During the operation, the Carabinieri also seized company vehicles present in the area and the piles of waste found. The company's sole director was remanded in custody on charges of illegal management of hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
In justifying the precautionary measure, the investigating judge highlighted the real risk of the crime being repeated and the risk of further worsening environmental pollution if the area remained at the disposal of the suspects.
It should be noted that the seizure is a precautionary measure and that, as required by law, the suspects are to be considered innocent until a final sentence is reached.
A new chapter, therefore, in the long battle against illegal waste trafficking and dumping that have threatened the Nola area for years, where once again it was citizens and local administrators who first raised the threat of a potential environmental disaster.
