A worrying picture emerges from the data released by the Court of Appeal of Napoli: In Campania Crimes related to gender-based and domestic violence have increased sharply compared to last year. President Maria Rosaria Covelli raised the alarm, presenting figures that demonstrate the urgency of the problem during a conference at the Regional Council dedicated to combating gender-based violence.
In the first half of 2025, 1.314 proceedings were initiated, compared to 883 in the same period in 2024. Case closures also increased, from 1.693 to 2.176. However, the data for individual crimes is particularly striking: stalking increased by 59%, domestic abuse by 85%, sexual violence by 75%, while attempted murders within the family have tripled. Homicide proceedings related to family or emotional contexts are also on the rise, with 72 pending cases (+30%).
"These numbers demonstrate the gravity of the situation, but also the growing capacity of the justice system to respond," Covelli emphasized. This assessment calls on institutions and civil society to make an even more decisive commitment to preventing and combating violence, both within and outside the home.
