San Gennaro Vesuviano – A wasteland hidden among vegetation, covering an area of approximately 1,000 square meters, has been transformed into an illegal landfill for industrial materials and urban waste.
This is what the Carabinieri of the Ecological Operations Unit (NOE) of Naples discovered in the early hours of the morning, together with the military of the Nola Company, during a large-scale environmental control operation.
The operation, carried out with the support of the Pontecagnano Helicopter Unit (Salerno), led to the seizure of the entire area, used for the illegal disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste. The investigation, coordinated by the Carabinieri, led to the identification of the site among the fields of San Gennaro Vesuviano, in an area difficult to access and well-hidden by vegetation.
A repository for industrial and urban waste
Inside the area, the military found approximately 400 tons of waste piled up on the ground, unprotected and completely exposed to the elements.

According to the Carabinieri, the waste was diverted from the regular disposal chain and dumped illegally, in violation of environmental regulations governing the management of hazardous waste.
Construction equipment and trucks were also seized.
During the operations, the military also seized several vehicles and construction equipment found on site, presumably used for transporting and unloading materials. The quantity and variety of waste found suggests that the illegal activity had been ongoing for some time: the area's isolated location and dense vegetation would have facilitated concealment of the operations.
Investigations underway to identify those responsible
The seizure was carried out on the initiative of the Judicial Police and will be submitted to the Nola Public Prosecutor's Office for validation. The investigation, currently underway, aims to identify those responsible for the waste dumping and the management of the illegal landfill.
The operation is part of the Carabinieri's NOE (National Environmental Protection Agency) efforts to combat environmental crimes. The NOE has been committed for years to protecting the environment and public health in an area historically vulnerable to illegal landfills and soil pollution.
