Quarto Flegreo – A night of tension and violence in the heart of the Phlegraean Fields, with two incidents of armed violence that sowed panic in the streets of Quarto.

The Carabinieri of the local station, alerted by reports of gunshots, intervened yesterday evening at two different hospitals in the area, where two men – both from the area – were treated for gunshot wounds.

The investigation, coordinated by the Pozzuoli Police Company, is underway to uncover a possible common motive, with investigators leaning toward a close territorial connection: both incidents likely occurred within the municipal boundaries of Quarto, amid feuds or escalating disputes echoing the news reports of an area already plagued by petty crime.

The first call came in around 23:00 PM at the Santa Maria delle Grazie hospital in Pozzuoli. A 34-year-old resident of Quarto was admitted there after being hit by two bullets in the legs in an ambush that seemed to be a settling of scores.

The superficial but painful wounds required immediate surgery to remove the metal fragments. The man is currently hospitalized in the Surgery Department, with a guarded prognosis but his life is not in danger: doctors estimate he will be out of action for at least a fortnight before a full recovery.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain shrouded in mystery. According to initial reports, the man was approached by a vehicle parked on Via Aldo Moro, a peripheral side street in the center of Quartu, known for its high traffic and lack of effective video surveillance.

Three or four hooded figures, aboard a dark Fiat Panda stolen in recent days in Bacoli, reportedly opened fire at close range before disappearing into the maze of nearby alleys. No eyewitnesses have come forward, but the shell casings recovered at the scene—9x21 caliber, compatible with illegal semi-automatic pistols—point to a premeditated act, perhaps linked to debts or disputes in the local street vendor scene.

A few minutes later, around 1:00 AM this morning, a second alarm brought officers to the emergency room of the San Paolo Hospital in Naples, a few kilometers from Quarto. A 40-year-old local man arrived there, also struck by a single bullet in the left leg, in an incident that appears to mirror the first.

With a less serious injury—a superficial vascular lesion treated with stitches and antibiotics—the man was discharged in the early hours of the morning with a prognosis of 21 days, during which he must refrain from physical exertion and attend periodic check-ups.

In this case too, the crime scene appears to be centered on Quarto: Via I Maggio, the same thoroughfare that has seen similar clashes in the past over trivial traffic or parking issues. Investigative hypotheses converge on an argument that degenerated into a shooting, with the assailant—described as a man in his forties, possibly an acquaintance—who apparently pulled out his weapon during a verbal altercation.

A revolver, likely, judging by the isolated shell casing found near a dumpster. The Carabinieri are combing the security cameras of nearby businesses and cross-referencing phone records to track the suspects' movements.
